Engine
Swaps:
Over the last 40 years we
have done many engine swaps, some of which were downright dangerous.
Back in the late 70's, we installed a built Mopar 440 in a 1955 Dodge pickup
truck with a late model automatic and rear axle. Ready to roll, it weighed
3100 lbs., and with the original suspension and brakes, it was unsafe at
any speed. In spite of that we runout of the drove it from Tampa
to Los Angeles and used it there as a daily commuter for two years before
selling it.
Now our swaps are much more
sensible. Most of our recent work involves replacing 1300 and 1600
engines with two liter engines, either with carbs, Spica or Bosch injection.
Since we only work on Alfa Romeos, we use only Alfa parts in our projects.
Current projects are a 1969 Guilia Super that will receive the entire drive
train and suspension from a 1978 Spider that had already been converted
to carbs. We're also installing the engine, transmission and Bosch
F/I from a 1989 Spider into a 1980 Spider. The last conversion is
being done primarily because the 1980/1981 version of the Spica system
is junk.
We have also installed a
2.5 V6 with 5 spd from an Alfa 6 sedan in a 1973 GTV, and we're planning
a spider/V6 conversion.
